Redrawing Africa's Borders

Just when we thought colonialism was dead, along comes Bill Gates. The founder and CEO of two of the world's most powerful corporations - Microsoft and the Gates Foundation - has probably invested more time and energy into exploiting Africa than any other continent, with the possible exception of his own (North America).

Gates has allied with Monsanto to promote genetically modified food as a miracle cure for hunger. The icing on the cake: The new agricultural kid on the block is also boosting local economies - or so claims Bill Gates.

In fact, there are reports that the governments of several African nations are kicking farmers off their traditional lands to make way for corporate agriculture.

In the meantime, NATO has invaded Libya, one of Africa's most progressive nations. In fact, some people believe one of the motives for the invasion was Moammar Gaddafi's grand scheme to tap into a vast freshwater aquifer lying under the Sahara Desert, turning Libya into Africa's breadbasket.

For a while, it looked like Libya might be split into two nations, but it looks like President Obama and his NATO allies want Gaddafi dead.

In the meantime, Bill Gates donated several million dollars to the capital of what he apparently recognizes as a new nation - South Sudan - and some are predicting Obama will invade Algeria next.

What further border changes to you predict lie in store for Africa? Will any nations change their names, flags or other prominent symbols or institutions?

What do you think would be a good name for a nation whose farmers effectively work for Bill Gates and Monsanto?
